The ultimate sandwich
What is the ultimate sandwich? I am sure if I were to run a survey everyone would have a different answer. Personally I no longer have even the slightest craving for the peanut butter and jam sandwiches on Wonder Bread that we used to eat as kids (yuck!), but a nice speck and gorgonzola cheese on fresh crusty French bread… now that I could get worked up about! The other day Zacky prepared the table for lunch putting out all kinds of stuff from mozzarella to prosciutto, everything he could find in the fridge including a number of things that had nothing to do with lunch. He even had me open a tin of tuna that he adores and when I finally managed to sit down at the table, he was already devouring his pumpkin seed bun. I kept an eye on him for a moment to see where the tuna was going to fall and was initially very surprised to see that he wasn’t making the usual mess. “Aha” I accused him “you haven’t put anything in that!”. Instead, he opened the bun triumphantly to show me that he had put something in; a big lump of … ’black’ bread! (dark multi-grain bread) For Zacky this is surely the absolute maximum that Italian cuisine has to offer.
